Defensive Web Surfing (Scams)

The age-old cliche that “if it sounds too good to be true, it is” happens to be sound advice when it comes to surfing the internet. Too many of us want to find that “golden opportunity” or that amazing, secret niche that will make us millions. Turn off the computer and come back to earth. The proven way to success has been tried and tested for ages, and the formula has not changed. That formula involves the development of knowledge and talent, and the application of specialized skills. In a market economy, a stronger demand for different types of knowledge and skill usually directly correlates to a high level of compensation. Have millionaires been made on the internet? Of course, but it was through the application of specialized knowledge. Genius evolves through toil and labor, and occurs as the mind works to solve problems. So, the next time someone is making outlandish promises online, take a step back. The FBI scam guidelines are a good place to start your reality check. (See FBI Internet Fraud.)
